Flexible packaging
Flexible packaging
Flexible packaging, the third largest films application field, is the area where a simple film becomes part of a complex structure, often in association with paper or aluminum foil, designed to satisfy the requirements of the packaging industry.
Leaving alone the barrier structures, these films generally sport superior optical and mechanical features, to be run on fast converting lines such as printers or laminators. Another interesting characteristic is the biaxial orientation of blown stretch film, which gives it an advantage over the cast film alternatives.
So far, the predominant production technology has been based on three layer structures, but the possibility of downgauging, and the development of dedicated resins are more and more shifting the attention of the market towards the five layer POD technology.
